What is Mentoring?

Mentoring can provide young people with friendship, support and healthy role modelling. This can help build confidence, self-worth, motivation and skills to find their way through challenging stages in life. Mentoring programs help young people make positive choices and look forward to the future. 

Hilltops Youth Mentoring Program offers support and guidance to their Mentors and Mentees to ensure a successful match. 

This Program supports young people (Mentees) aged 12 to 18 years in Hilltops LGA. 

Once you join the program you will be matched with a trained mentor one-on-one with a plan tailored to meet your needs.

Mentors are able to offer support with:

  • School projects/assessments

  • Participation in sports

  • Learning new skills

  • Talking things over and listening

  • Other areas of interest and goal setting

Why Mentor and What's Involved?

Benefits to mentors can include:

  • Satisfaction of passing on life experience and skills

  • A sense of achievement by providing opportunities that have a positive influence on someone's life

  • A feeling of purpose, making a difference to others

  • An opportunity to build new positive relationships and meet new people

  • Developing new skills and having new experience 

What's involved? 

Hilltops Youth Mentor Program conducts screening and offers a comprehensive training program to all new Mentors. To be a mentor you must:

  • Aged 21 years or older

  • Able to obtain a current Working with Children and National Crime Check 

  • Willing to sign and adhere to the programs Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreements
